Assuming you have more than one emitter in the scene, you need to set up your exclusive links. Drag the emitter you want affected by the magic daemon to your exclusive links window. Drag the magic daemon onto the emitter in the exclusive links (objects and daemons must be below the emitter in the hierarchy, with daemons at the bottom if objects are also involved). Now delete both the daemon and that emitter from your global links and you're ready to go.
